Gender Identification

Trans
Trans is simply used to identify any person who is transgender. A trans person may be a trans man or trans woman, or identify non-binary. It's fine to use trans when in conversation with nontransgender people, but ask the specific trans individual how he, she, or they would like to be addressed.
Transsexual / Transgender Woman
First of all one thing should be made clear: A transgender woman is often confused with crossdressers and drag queens. Drag queens are always men, typically gay men, who dress as women for the purpose of entertainment and experimentation. Crossdressers and drag queens often perform at LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer) bars, nightclubs, and theatre venues. It's important to recognize this basic fact in order to effectively proceed dating transgender women. You might encounter crossdressers and drag queens on the Trans Amor app, but searching for specifically transgender women will be something you’ll need to clarify with the trans individual, even though the app category states transgender women. Use the term preferred by the person. Do not use the word transvestite as it is outdated. Likewise, transexual is outdated. Queer
Queer identity means many things to many people. Anyone in the LGBTQ community may refer to themselves as queer, including anyone in the trans community. Queer used to have a negative connotation, meaning strange, weird, or somehow undeserving of respect. This is no longer true. A queer person identifies under the broad categories of LGBTQ. Some use it, others don't. It's that simple. But let the other person self-identify queer before calling them queer.
Cisgender or simply Cis
Cisgender or cis means people who are not transgender. Cis is a prefix meaning on the same side as. It is an antonym of trans. Using the word nontransgender is the same as using cis. A cis man is often a heterosexual man; a cis woman is often a heterosexual woman. Similarly, a cis gay man or cis gay woman is true, but LGBTQ people usually use LGBTQ terms. A trans person is never referred to as cis.
Ladyboy
Ladyboy is a term widely used in Asian countries such as The Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand to define transgender women. Ladyboy is generally an accepted term for trans women from Asia, but in the rest of the world it has a negative name (thanks to the sex industry) and 'ladyboy' can be taken as an insult.
