TransAmor - Transgender Dating App
Welcome to TransAmor, delivering the industry's best transgender dating app. Transgender is a broad term covering many different names for individuals who may be at different stages in their trans identification. Below we'll define these differences making the dating process easier for you to navigate when pursuing transgender dating and the possibilities of relationship choices.
A person's internal sense of gender. Transsexual / tansgender people identity differently from the sex they were assigned at birth. Most people have a gender identity of man or woman. More and more, younger people are recognizing their sexual identity earlier. Some people do not feel a particular gender identity that fits into male or female categories. Thus, we have seen the term non-binary or genderqueer arise for those that do not feel it is necessary to somehow limit themselves by a strict gender identification of male or female. Gender expression is a term that refers mainly to how a trans person chooses to use and have others use gender pronouns that refer to them such as he/his/him, she/hers/her, or they/their/them. Today, many younger people exploring their sexual and gender identification are choosing to use they/their/them to self-identify and to have others identify them.
Trans is simply used to identify any person who is transgender. A trans person may be a trans man or trans woman, or identify non-binary. It's fine to use trans when in conversation with nontransgender people, but ask the specific trans individual how he, she, or they would like to be addressed.
First of all one thing should be made clear: A transgender woman is often confused with crossdressers and drag queens. Drag queens are always men, typically gay men, who dress as women for the purpose of entertainment and experimentation. Crossdressers and drag queens often perform at LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer) bars, nightclubs, and theatre venues. It's important to recognize this basic fact in order to effectively proceed dating transgender women. You might encounter crossdressers and drag queens on the Trans Amor app, but searching for specifically transgender women will be something you’ll need to clarify with the trans individual, even though the app category states transgender women. Use the term preferred by the person. Do not use the word transvestite as it is outdated. Likewise, transexual is outdated. If someone you meet prefers to identify as transvestite or transexual, they will usually let you know upfront.
Transgender Women: those who were assigned male at birth but, over the course of maturing through childhood, adolescence, and into adulthood have come to recognize that they internally identify female. Transgender women are frequently at different stages in the sexual identification process. Transgender women might be in the process of gender reassignment, meaning that the person is undergoing medical procedures to develop their bodies in agreement with their trans identity. Many trans women, but not all, choose to proceed with hormone therapy. If you are unclear, simply ask the person and let them educate you further on the process they have chosen to pursue.
A transgender man is sometimes confused with drag kings. Drag kings are always women, typically gay women, who dress as a man for the purpose of entertainment and experimentation. Drag kings, just like drag queens, perform at LGBTQ bars, nightclubs, and theatre venues. It's important to recognize this basic fact in order to effectively proceed dating transgender men. You might encounter drag kings on the TransAmor app, but searching for specifically transgender men will be something you'll need to clarify with the trans individual, even though the app category states transgender man. Use the term preferred by the person. Likewise with transgender women, do not use the word transvestite as it is outdated. Transexual is also outdated. If someone you meet prefers to identify as transvestite or transexual, they will usually let you know up front.
Transgender Men are people who were assigned female at birth but, over the course of maturing through childhood, adolescence, and into adulthood have recognized that they internally identify male. Transgender men are frequently at different stages in the sexual identification process. Similarly transgender men might be in the process of gender reassignment, meaning that the person is undergoing medical procedures to develop their bodies in agreement with their trans identity. Many trans men, but not all, choose to proceed with hormone therapy. If you are unclear, simply ask the individual. Let the person educate you further on the process they have chosen to pursue.
Non-binary individuals choose they/their/them to self-identify and to have others identify them. If a person identifies non-binary, use those pronouns. The important thing to recognize is your attraction to another person. Let your dating journey be fun, let it educate you, and most importantly, practice and show respect for others. Coming out is challenging for anyone LGBTQ. Enjoy the process of exploring with others. Along the way you may discover that the person is evolving in their sexual identification and there may be sudden changes. Respect the other individual and they will respect you.
Queer identity means many things to many people. Anyone in the LGBTQ community may refer to themselves as queer, including anyone in the trans community. Queer used to have a negative connotation, meaning strange, weird, or somehow undeserving of respect. This is no longer true. A queer person identifies under the broad categories of LGBTQ. Some use it, others don't. It's that simple. But let the other person self-identify queer before calling them queer.
Cisgender or cis means people who are not transgender. Cis is a prefix meaning on the same side as. It is an antonym of trans. Using the word nontransgender is the same as using cis. A cis man is often a heterosexual man; a cis woman is often a heterosexual woman. Similarly, a cis gay man or cis gay woman is true, but LGBTQ people usually use LGBTQ terms. A trans person is never referred to as cis.
Ladyboy is a term widely used in Asian countries such as The Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand to define transgender women. Ladyboy is generally an accepted term for trans women from Asia, but in the rest of the world it has a negative name (thanks to the sex industry) and 'ladyboy' can be taken as an insult.
